released a new ad taking aim at mr. romney's economic plan. >> in here it's just you. no ads, no debates, just you. so think about this. mitt romney's plan rolls back regulations on the banks that crashed our economy. medicare voucherized. >> president obama also talking about avoiding the fiscal cliff which would trigger tax hikes and spending cuts two short months from now. he says he wants to work with congressional republicans on it. >> i've said to folks, i'll go to capitol hill. i'll wash john boehner's car. i'll walk mitch mcconnell's dog. i'll do whatever is required to get this done. >> president obama heads to new hampshire a bit later today for a stop in nashua. vice president biden is scheduled to hold an event in lynch burg, virginia. >>> now we go to ohio where nbc's ron mott is on that bus tour with paul ryan. hello to you ron again. where are you in the many stops on that bus tour today? >> reporter: hey there, alex. i've got to get my back stretched out. we've got five stops as you mentioned here today. three more tomorrow. eight in total. 400 plus miles over the next tw

, the veteran, ignored romney's charge. >> mr. romney, let's put the ads aside and talk about health care. let's talk about education. let's talk about training. let's talk about new jobs. let's talk about infrastructure. let's talk about our different vision for massachusetts. that's what the people of massachusetts want to talk about. and that's what i think they ought to hear about. >> i think about 10 or 15 minutes in, romney began to realize this was not the easy exercise he thought it was going to be. >> narrator: then romney faltered. the issue was health care. >> i have a plan. i have a position paper on health care. i'm happy to show it to you, senator, any time you'd like. >> mr. romney, it isn't a question of showing me your paper. it's a question of showing all of the people in here that are watching this program the paper. they ought to have an opportunity to know. what is the cost of your program? >> i don't have a cost of my program. >> you don't have a cost? >> no, i'm sorry, i don't have... >> what would be the impact of that on the budget? >> well, the impact, i do not know t

is following mr. romney along the trail. so jim, you heard him there. he did -- he went through his five-point plan again, not giving a whole lot of specifics but certainly trying to lay out what he would do if indeed he is elected come tuesday. >> that's right, randi. you know, at this point, it's hard to get all of those specifics out there. i mean, he has been hammering the five-point plan repeatedly for the last couple of weeks of this campaign, and i think by now his supporters probably know what those specifics are, but you're right. i mean, he is laying out his agenda for his first 100 days in office, you might say, but randi, i have to tell you, one of the things we picked up here on the campaign trail in the last couple of days, mitt romney has really gone after what he believes is a weakness in the obama campaign strategy. the romney campaign believes that president obama, and they are making the case is, trying to make the case, that president obama has sort of forgotten his mandate for when he came into office, that he was supposed to bring about this era of post-partisanship

to eliminate it. at a republican primary debate last year, mr. romney was asked whether emergency management was a function that should be returned to the states. he not only agreed, he went further. mr. romney not only believes that states acting independently can handle the response to a vast east coast storm better than washington, but that companies can do an even better job. he said it was immoral for the federal government to do all these things if it means increasing the debt. many don't like the idea of free aid for poor people or think people should pay for their bad decisions, which this week includes living on the east coast. >> what do you want me to say? >> nothing. i really don't want you to say anything. >> no, i want to say something. >> okay. go ahead and say something. >> that's absolutely ridiculous. >> okay. >> i think what mitt romney is absolutely ridiculous. >> oh. okay. >> this is what happens, though, when you're afraid to go after medicare, medicaid and social security and defense spending and reform taxes to bring more revenue to the federal government, you have to

's insane. i think mr. mitt romney ought to be pushing back. >> as a quick extension, his idea instead of doing that with the economy back on its heels, raise taxes, which he will do if he gets reelected and impose more regulation on the economy. that's his solution to the problem we had before. >> i think the contrast in these closing arguments are very telling. obama decides to double down on the character assassination and class warfare, romney is talking bipartisanship, and he was a governor of a blue state. one sounds more presidential than the other. >> paul: the president is throwing out attempts to say, well, i'm going to get a big budget deal with congress, i real want bipartisan immigration deal, hey, maybe, even tax reform. >> this is really important, yeah, because he's being very critical of romney and last weeks we're seeing the glimmer of hope and change obama and trying to get that back and the testament with independent voters and women and they voted for him in 2008 because, again, he claimed to be a new type of politician. i don't think this was working. it's falling

lived in massachusetts when romney was the governor back in 2006, what have you. overall, mr. romney, governor romney at the time -- you hear how we set up a slush fund and all these great things he did for the state which are totally untrue. i have to say, i look at -- i live in new hampshire. the campaign itself, and this is my question, i guess, the campaign where he is changing positions from the time he was governor of massachusetts to what he says today, he has totally changed his whole direction. he is -- he was pro-like back then, now he is pro-life. guest: let's get that point. host: let's get that point. guest: candidates can change positions. the president, you can hold certain examples of the president's record where he changed positions. between next tuesday and inauguration day, no matter who wins you might see changing of the positions taken during the campaign. just a guess. these things well changed over time. candidates will take a step down from a harder positions they took in the campaign. is the nation -- nature of politics. host: green bay, wisconsin. democratic

across the aisle in a bipartisan way and got things done. >> steve: okay. mr. romney has talked about that, how he, you saw him at the debates talking about it, 75, 80% democrats, versus him, the lone republican governor. >> eric: fox news had a poll two nights ago that came out and found that 60% of people polled were interested in the economy and fiscal issues as their most important issues. mr. baker is on target with that. >> gretchen: let's talk about that working across the aisle. here is mitt romney. >> you want to see four more years with washington in gridlock? >> no. >> look, i know that the president wants to see four more years and that's his chant, four more years, four more years. our chant is this: five more days. all right [ cheers and applause ] by the way, i think i'll ask the leader, leader cantor, when was the last time you met with the president on the economy and jobs and the budget? he says almost a year. >> steve: meanwhile, it seems like the campaign has been going on for almost a year, actually longer. now it's down to not five days. it's four days. >> eric:

, and as was mentioned by mr. o'connell, the transition happened when romney went from more an extreme conservativist position to the middle. i think it's something members in congress should take note of, americans will award those coming to the middle in trying solve a problem. i believe the president will win, and i believe the senate will remain in the democratic hands and the house the republican, and as people come together, i think it should be a recognition that they want folks to come together and solve these problems. i think the president has tried to make his case he's ready to do that. >> ford looks anxious. >> i don't think the president will win, but i think it will be close, and the question really is who will win ohio. we may not know because of november 17th. i think locally mitt romney will win virginia, and if he wins virginia, florida, ohio, colorado or new hampshire, he'll be the next president. i think the president at this moment has a little bit better chance in the electoral college. >> i can't offer to shave my mustache when we win ohio, but i think that will happen. but i

election, mike huckabee is out in columbus, ohio with us. mr. governor, big day yesterday for mitt romney. he had 30,000 people energized at an event there in ohio. one of the reasons people are excited about him he has a plan for the economy. if you look at the unemployment number yesterday it went the wrong direction. up that frar 8%. it's at 7.9%. >> steve, i will be honest with you, i think the message if i were an employer, and i am. what i say to employees is simply this. if you really want to keep your job, you need to hope barack obama doesn't keep his if you are determined that he needs to keep his you need to be prepared to lose his. if he is reelected what you have had the last four. the numbers haven't improved. many cases gotten worse because his policies are antibusiness. i know that sounds harsh but it's the hard reality. when you continue to threaten people with higher taxes, increased cost of regulation. government intervention you scare employers from wanting to hire anybody. >> gretchen: one of the words tossed about this morning is stagnation when you look at the joble

change and prosperity if mitt romney is elected. and one of the new criticisms that mr. romney says, you heard is the reference to the president's rhetoric on the trail yesterday. mr. obama was talking about g.o.p. policies on the trail and the crowd began to boo. and he said, don't boo, vote, voting is the best revenge. and romney, as you heard there a moment ago picked up on it saying, the president has now reduced his campaign to small things and attacks, whereas what romney argues notwithstanding his own attacks of president obama, is that he's offering hope and change. borrowed rhetoric from the 2008 obama campaign itself perhaps, but none of less, in that completion of his rhetoric about obama and revenge, he says, what he hopes people do is vote for their love of country. all about a positive close, notwithstanding again, the criticisms implicit and explicit throughout the stump speech in what is now 82 hours before the first polls close on the east coast tuesday night. we'll send it back to you in new york. >> brian: carl, i know you've got a sense of people on the ground that mc

and inside was our flag in perfect condition. sits next on the flagpole next to mr. romney, and electricity ran through my arms because i thought about men and women of our space program who have lived their lives for something bigger than americ themselves. think of women who have served in the arm for first, their willingness to walk in the way of danger for us, for liberty. it is part of the american character to give of oneself to something bigger than oneself. it is who we are. is true in the patriots of the space program, the patrons who serve in our military, who served in the homes. my sister is in her 70's. she has eight children. they are all married with kids of their own, except the untest. the youngest, jeffrey, was born with down's syndrome. he is about 43 right now. her husband pass away a few years ago. she is at home with jeffrey, and she has devoted the last 43 years of her life to making sure that jeffrey's life is as full and complete as can possibly be. and he wrote to me. -- a hero to me. i think of the single moms across the country who are scrimping and saving right

romnesia. >> mr. romney tries to have voters believe that he's a car guy, proud son of george romney, held of american motors. but there is that op-ed that will haunt him for the next nine days. and the title says it all. let detroit go bankrupt. romney might have been voicing his opposition to bailing out the auto companies and instead managed -- wanted to go with managed bankruptcy, but it translated if he want detroit to go away and die. and while the auto industry is making a slow and somewhat staggered comeback, it walk as fine line between bankruptcy and solvency. president obama's plan did not give up on the american car or american car manufacturing. and that may translate in the president's favor beyond michigan into key battleground states like ohio where recent polls show him doing better among white male voters than in other parts of the country. so ari, to me this notion of romney trying to sell himself as an automat bot when he's clear deceptive, he can keep saying i love cars when we have that let detroit go bankrupt headline. >> this goes to the entire mindset of their worl

in pittsburgh just one year ago -- one week ago. mrs. romney has been here. why are they not spending money here? i don't know. i'm not privy. host: josh shapiro, not much of the president or vice president since the convention. guest: have been preparing for victory for more than a year. 50 field offices, thousands of volunteers going around knocking on doors, making phone calls. we are a bottom-up campaign. this will be one on the field in election day. i think the president as an organization second to none that i'm proud to be associated with. i'm confident we will have a victory on november 6th. host: josh shapiro, you're from the philadelphia area. bloomberg has a number of key counties to look at, among them chester, a lehigh, and others. why are these so critical to the campaign in november? guest: chair gleason will agree that the swing areas likely in the suburbs. montgomery county, that represent on the board of commissioners, is the largest among them. when you look at how that area has swung in past elections, that determines the winner. if you look at the poll that came out today,

with the container. inside the container was the flag in perfect condition. that's it on the flag pole next to mr. romney. i pulled out the flag. it was as if electricity was running through my arms. i think of the people who lived their lives for more than themselves. think of our men and women, their willingness to walk in danger's way for us. for liberty and freedom. it is part of the american character to give of oneself for something greater. the patriots -- who serve in the military -- and wh oserve in the -- who serve at home. homes. my sister, lynn, is in her 70's with 8 children. they're all married with kids of their own. the youngest, jeffrey, has downs syndrome. he is 43 now. her husband died years ago and she is with jeffrey. she has spent 43 years to making sure his life is as full and complete as it can possibly be. a hero, to me. i think of the single moms across the country who are saving so they can have a good meal on the table at the end of the day. i think of the men and women working two jobs. they wrok two jobs so their kids can have the clothes others have. and the couples

. it's great to be with you. >> steve: great to have you. so after a couple of days that mr. romney has for the most part taken off due to the circumstances of the big storm here in the northeast, it's game on again today. he's going to be traveling with you and also former governor bush and marco rubio and what is his message to florida? >> i think his message is the same one he's been talking about for a long time. that's jobs and the economy and how to get this country moving again. there are a lot of people down here in florida who are hurting. their homes are upside down and their loans, they can't find work. there is 820,000 floridans out of work, more who have stopped looking for work. so it's about how to get job creators back into the game of creating jobs. you do that by lower taxes, lower regulations, and putting our faith and trust back into the people of the state of florida and this country instead of more and more government. that's exactly what mitt romney has been talking about. if i could real quick, i want to let everyone know that here in florida, our hearts and pray
